Q1. Why was the king advised to go to magicians?
Answer: The king was advised to go to magicians so that he could look into the future, and decide the right time for every action.
Q2. In answer to the second question, whose advice did the people say would be important to the king?
Answer: The second question also got varied responses. As answer to this question, some said that the people most necessary to the king were his councillors. Hence, their advice would be the most important. Others said that the priests were the most important. A few others chose the doctors. And yet others said that his soldiers were the most important.
Q3. What suggestions were made in answer to the third question?
Answer: In answer to the third question, some said science was the most important affair. Others chose fighting and yet others advocated religious worship.
Q4. Did the wise men win the reward? If not, why not?
Answer: No, the wise men did not win the reward as the king was not satisfied with anybody’s answers.
Q5. How did the king and the hermit help the wounded man?
Answer: First of all, the king cleaned the wound by washing it. Then he covered the wound with his handkerchief. He continued to dress the wound until the bleeding stopped entirely. The king gave some water to the wounded man to drink.
The king and the hermit carried the wounded man inside the hut and let him take rest in the hut in the night.
Q6. (i) Who was the bearded man?
Answer: The bearded man was the sworn enemy of the king who had put bearded man’s brother to death. He had taken away all his property, too.
(ii) Why did he ask for the king’s forgiveness?
Answer: He asked for the king’s forgiveness as the king had saved his life. He came there for taking revenge from the king but instead the king helped him to get better.
Q7. The king forgave the bearded man. What did he do to show his forgiveness?
Answer: The king forgave the man. He showed his forgiveness by telling him that he would send his servants and his own doctor to look after him. He also promised to give back the man his property.
Q8. What were the hermit’s answers to the three questions? Write each answer separately. Which answer do you like most, and why?
Answer: The hermit’s answer was that ‘Now’ is the best time to begin work. For, nobody knows whether he will have any time in the future or not. The king had just put his questions, when he pitied the hermit. Later on it proved to be the best time. Had he not done so and gone back, his enemy would have killed him.
Answering the second question, the hermit said that the people present were the best. They alone should be listened to. For, these are the only people whom one can consult at once.
To do good to the people present is the most important thing. It was the hermit’s reply to the third question. According to the hermit, man was sent on the earth for this purpose alone.
I like the answer to the first question most. It is most logical.
